Stuart Martin

Age: 36

Business: Hendrick Health

Job title: Attending Physician, Obstetrics and Gynecology

Why are you working in this industry? I am personally connected to the field through my family history. Both my grandmother and mother passed away from ovarian cancer in their 40’s, and this has provided both a strong attachment and a daily motivation to provide optimal care in the field of women’s health.

What are three daily habits that have helped you to become successful?

  1. Prioritize the patient – “the good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease”

  2. Prioritize home life – Family and sleep are the batteries needed to recharge so I can be the best version of me possible for my patients

  3. Exercise - a healthy body helps foster and support a healthy mind

Who is the person who most influenced you in business? Dr. Creighton Edwards, my mother’s Gyn-Oncologist.

What is the best advice you have ever received? Nothing in this world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty. No kind of life is worth leading if it is always an easy life

What do you want to be doing in 10 years? The exact same thing, maybe while overseeing a larger clinical team with an emphasis on offering a greater variety of birthing and robotic surgery services than currently available.

Describe yourself in one word. Charismatic

If you were to give one piece of advice to someone starting out in your field what would it be? To work in healthcare is both an honor and a privilege… people entrust you with their lives. It HAS to be a labor of love, but there is no more gratifying job you can pour your sweat and heart into.
