Name: Jodi Riggan
Where do you work? Expo Center of Taylor County
What’s your job title/what do you do? Exhibit Manager. I work with all Food & Commercial vendors for the West Texas Fair & Rodeo as well as the Western Heritage Classic. I am always striving to bring in a wide variety of shopping to our events as well as different types of cuisines.
Where are you from? I am originally from Gordon, Neb., however I was raised my entire life in Texas.
If you’re not from Abilene, how long have you lived in the area and what brought you here? I have lived here since June of 2017. We moved to be closer to my husband's family and to help with the family ranch.
What is your favorite thing about living in the Big Country? Living in the Mulberry Canyon southwest of Merkel is peaceful and everyone in our area is like family.
What do you do in your free time? We live on a ranch, so a lot of hours are devoted to working cattle, farming and every day ranch work. When we get a chance to break away from work life and the farm I love to travel, go hunting, deep sea fishing, see concerts and most of all spend time with my husband and our new baby girl. What does being an Abilene Young Professional mean to you? It has given me the opportunity to meet so many new faces and local business owners that I never knew were here. I have found my now dentist through AYP and I have met several new faces.
What’s your favorite restaurant in Abilene? It's actually a local food truck, BoThai. I lived in the DFW area for 20+ years, where there is a wide variety of cuisines there. When I happened to come across this food truck in Abilene I was shocked. The owners are fantastic people and the food is wonderful.
What’s your favorite place to travel to and why? Its a toss up between Angel Fire, N.M. and Breckenridge, Colo. Both places have beautiful mountains and they both have all four seasons in the year. I love sitting outside of the cabin watching the elk and deer play in the yard, fishing in the cool waters and the environment is so peaceful.
