Brian Dowdy AYP Member Spotlight - June

Name: Brian Dowdy
Where do you work?: Burchell, Denson & Morrison, P.C.
What’s your job title/what do you do?: Tax Accountant
Where are you from? Clyde, Texas
If you’re not from Abilene, how long have you lived in the area and what brought you here? Though I am from Clyde, my wife and I moved to Carrolton to finish our education at UT Dallas. About two years ago, after a couple years in the DFW job market, we decided to move back! I believe it is two-fold, a community to plant our roots and the opportunity to help shape that same community. The new growth within Abilene is beginning to cater towards a younger generation and I am enjoying being a part of it!
What is your favorite thing about living in the Big Country? The restaurants! We have so many local restaurants that it is a foodie's dream!
What do you do in your free time? Home renovations…. at least the last past two years! In my free time I enjoy keeping busy, I love building things and spending time on the water!
What does being an Abilene Young Professional mean to you? Community and Fellowship! I have met so many amazing people and rekindled old friendships through our "AYP After Five". It is great being with growth oriented and hard-working colleagues you can align your ideals with!
What organizations (non-profit) in town do you choose to support and why? I truly support all non-profits to the extent their purpose is to serve a community and its growth. I have had the opportunity to volunteer with the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature (NCCIL) and appreciate their drive to inspire the imaginations of all generations! I also would like to mention the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council because of the amount of organizations they have contributed to that has helped shape Abilene's downtown into the "Storybook Capital of America".
What’s your favorite place to travel to and why? Somewhere with water! My wife and I love going to all the Texas water escapes from Port Aransas to the Guadalupe and ending with all the local lakes.
What’s something you’re passionate about and why? Real estate! I am obsessed with every portion of real estate from improvements to large expanses of land. My recent interest is Lake Fort Phantom now that the City of Abilene is on its last phase of selling the leased land. I believe it has received a negative reputation due to neglected leased properties that will now be deeded. The lake itself is quite fun to boat on and one of the only lakes in Texas with a north flowing spillway.
