Name: Cara Duck
Where do you work? Dyess Air Force Base Pharmacy
What’s your job title/what do you do? Pharmacist
Where are you from? I was born in San Angelo, Texas and lived there until I was a sophomore in high school when my family moved to Abilene where I finished high school. I moved away for college at Texas Tech and pharmacy school in San Antonio where I lived until 3 years ago.
How long have you lived in Abilene and what brought you here? I went to high school in Abilene and moved away for college and Pharmacy school but moved back 3 years ago. I moved back to be close to family and have been blessed with our time together and the bond my daughter has made with her family.
What is your favorite thing about living in Abilene? I enjoy having my family here in Abilene and the wonderful friends I’ve made both from high school and moving back. Abilene just feels comfortable to me.
What do you do in your free time? I try to spend as much of my free time with my wonderful three-year-old daughter! I also love pretty much all sports and have taken up running recently. Dyess has a wonderful trail that they call airplane row which is a museum of old planes along with Abilene Christian University's beautiful trail around campus. I also love watching college football, (wreck’em) playing soccer, and mostly being outside. Traveling is also very important to me.
What does being an Abilene Young Professional mean to you? I think being an Abilene Young Professional is a great way to get connected with our community whether for business reasons, volunteer reasons, or just to feel like you belong. For me being an Abilene Young Professional has given me opportunities to reconnect with old friends and make great new ones as well as I can be very shy.
What’s the last book you read or what’s your favorite book? I used to think I hated reading but after finishing school I missed it and love reading. Gone Girl is a great easy read.
What’s your favorite place to travel to and why? I love traveling! I studied abroad in Seville and Salamanca, Spain in college and love any time I get to go to Spain. I also love going to the beach and my daughter shares that love for the beach so we have many great memories there and hoping to make many more.
