Name: Garrett Sublette
Where do you work: Abilene Christian University
What’s your job title/what do you do: Director of Enrollment Operations – oversee Enrollment Marketing, Campus Visits, Athletic Recruiting, and maintain departmental database, imports, and reporting
Where are you from? Tyler, TX
If you’re not from Abilene, how long have you lived here and what brought you here? I came to Abilene to attend ACU and have been here for 18 years. I’ve now lived half my life in Abilene and half in Tyler.
What is your favorite thing about living in Abilene? I love the pace of life in Abilene and the community of people. Everywhere you go chances are you run in to someone you know, which I love.
What do you do in your free time? I play a lot of golf, love to cook, travel and see new places, and spend time with friends.
What does being an Abilene Young Professional mean to you? Too often people think Abilene is only a place you go to college, but then you move off to somewhere bigger and better. Being a young professional in Abilene shows that this is a great place to live with many opportunities. The last 5 years there has been such a positive growth of younger people wanting to live in this community, make it their home, and make it more appealing for others to do the same.
What organizations in town do you choose to support and why?
I have coached baseball at Dixie Little League the past two years because not only do I love baseball, but I think it is important to invest in kids at an early age. The kids come from different backgrounds with different levels of support and home, and it is fun to be a positive influence in their life. It is also the first time many of them have played sports so to help build their self-confidence in themselves is extremely rewarding and fun.
What’s your favorite restaurant in Abilene? Without a doubt, Beehive. So many great memories there, and Nariman always takes care of us!
What’s your favorite place to travel to and why? New York City. There is no place like it because it blends so many different cultures and people all in one small place. I love to go and just walk the city and try different restaurants and go see things I haven’t seen before.
