What is your favorite thing about living in the Big Country? I love Abilene because it is large enough that there are always new people to meet, but small enough to have that warm, small-town feel. It has great businesses, wonderful churches, and terrific schools. It is a perfect place to raise a family.
What do you do in your free time? Most of my free time is spent running after my 9 year old son. Between all of his sports and school activities, we stay quite busy, but I love every minute of it! My husband and I also love any opportunity to enjoy a concert or a nice glass of wine with friends.
What does being an Abilene Young Professional mean to you? Being an Abilene Young Professional means that I have the opportunity to impact the future and a responsibility to ensure that the impact is positive. I particularly love how the AYP organization gives us the chance to meet other professionals around the Big Country, learn about businesses in Abilene, and make great connections. There are many hidden treasures in this small town, and the AYP helps to shine a light on them.
What organizations (non-profit) in town do you choose to support and why? For the past several years, I have been closely involved with the Meals on Wheels program. It is a service that provides home-delivered meals to the elderly or disabled. I was first introduced to this organization years ago, when my grandparents began to utilize their services. However, it was my company, FDLIC that introduced me to volunteer opportunities with them. Corporately, FDLIC supports Meals on Wheels through a weekly route, which I am a part of. Watching my grandparents reach the stage in life where preparing a nutritious meal on a daily basis became an obstacle showed me just how valuable Meals on Wheels is to the families it serves. I believe God commands us as followers of Christ to care for those in need, and to me that is what Meals on Wheels is all about. It is a true labor of love.
What’s your favorite restaurant in Abilene? My favorite restaurant is most definitely Perini Ranch Steakhouse. There is nothing else that compares to their food and atmosphere. It is my happy place!
