Jacob Hutson

Age: 39

Business: Benchmark Business Solutions

Job title: Regional Sales Manager

Why are you working in this industry? I enjoy B2B sales because I enjoy meeting and cultivating relationships with customers while providing a quality service to support their business.

What are three daily habits that have helped you to become successful?

·  Block off time away from distractions (email, phone calls) to work on a specific project/task

· Clean off and organize my desk (daily is a little bit of a stretch but consistently)

· Engaging colleagues in meaningful conversations that are sometimes professional but sometimes personal.

Who is the person who most influenced you in business? Teresa Walch.  Teresa hired me at the Boys & Girls Club of Abilene. She provided me with several leadership opportunities, even at a young age, to learn, grow and develop as a professional.  During this time, I learned what it meant to genuinely care about my community, employees and stakeholders.  She also provided open and honest feedback and always challenged me to grow and develop. To this day, I often reach out to Teresa for advice whether it be personal or professional.  (Side note:  Teresa also introduced me to my wife)

What is the best advice you have ever received? Everybody has the same 24 hours in a day.  The CEO of a fortune 500 company, the person that is running their own business, and you.  What you choose to prioritize and accomplish in that 24 hours is up to you.

What was the most significant hurdle you had to overcome to get where you are? How would you address this hurdle today? Balancing natural abilities with learned disciplines.

What changes have you seen in Abilene during your career? What changes would you like to see? Growing up in Abilene, I have a unique perspective of the city as a child/student, College Student (HSU) and as a professional.  It has been incredible to see the growth in the Downtown/SoDA District, the number of family/social events and increase in access to arts and culture activities.  In the future, I would love to see an increase in recreational activities including hiking trails, mountain bike trails and other outdoor recreational activities.

Where will we find you enjoying your hard-earned time off? Spending time with family and friends or at a field, court or swimming pool coaching or cheering on my kids.
