Job title: Administrator

Why are you working in this industry? I’m passionate about providing quality care and quality of life.

What are three daily habits that have helped you to become successful?

Make a list and prioritize. Find someone doing a good job and thank them. Create a space to rest.

What is an accomplishment that shaped your career?

15 years ago, I had a resident with advanced dementia. He could no longer have a conversation or care for himself, and sometimes he would become agitated. In his past, he’d been a Master bridge player; some afternoons when he was upset, I would go to him and say, “I have an 8 of spades”. He would immediately get a giant smile on his face and he would play a card in return (of course his hand always beat mine). It was during these moments that I realized, with one small act, I could change his day for the better and I knew I had found my calling.

What do you want to be doing in 10 years?

Assist in developing memory units where all aspects of care are considered and utilized, and build curriculum so staff understand and better care for residents.

Where will we find you enjoying your hard-earned time off?

Spending time with family, cuddling and playing with my boys, cooking a new recipe, or on a date night with my hubby.

Describe yourself in one word.

Passionate

If you were to give one piece of advice to someone starting out in your field what would it be?

You will have opportunities to make business decisions, but never forget that you’re responsible for and taking care of people. They always come first.
