Business: Upward Bound (TRIO)
Job title: Educational Coordinator
Why are you working in this industry? To give what was given to me. I’ve been blessed to learn from and sit at the feet of some amazing people/educators in my life that have shaped my perspective and worldview. Working in education for many years, and now at ACU’s Upward Bound, I’ve found that I get to pour into the lives of youth in creative ways that allows them to reach for whatever goals and dreams they wish to attain. This is my way to honor those that have paved the way for me, and to give back to those that will come after me.
What are three daily habits that have helped you to become successful?
I thank God. Daily.
Show kindness to all people. Daily.
Listen to uplifting music and motivational podcasts. Daily.
Who is the person who most influenced you in business? My mother was my positive influence, as she was a single parent raising two children, an educator in Houston ISD for nearly 40 years, and never missed a beat.
What is the best advice you have ever received? Where focus goes, energy flows, and results show.
What was the most significant hurdle you had to overcome to get where you are? How would you address this hurdle today? To not settle and to dream BIG! I had to get to a point in my life where I had to make a decision to truly go for what God has for me. I’m currently in the process of completing my last semester in the Social Work master’s program at ACU. This has been challenging and very rewarding as I strive to be a life-long learner every day.
Where will we find you enjoying your hard-earned time off? You will find me enjoying quality time with my wife, throwing the ball with my sons, or writing a song or two.
Describe yourself in one word. Dedicated.
Youth Chorus Director at Minda Street Church of Christ
Your family: My beautiful wife Camile, and sons Jacques Kane (21), Thurmond Jr., (5) and Lincoln Robert (2).
