Business: Hendrick Health System
Job title: Director, Regional Services
Why are you working in this industry? Healthcare presents a unique opportunity to serve people during some of the highest and lowest moments of life. I am blessed to be part of that journey and to invest in others each day.
What are three daily habits that have helped you to become successful?
Reading / learning
Who is the person who most influenced you in business? I’ve been fortunate to work with many outstanding people who have poured into me and influenced my professional journey. Brian Bessent is one of those people. Brian helped me navigate the transition from patient care to administration. He invested in me by sharing his experience and insight to help develop my talent as a healthcare leader. He is a role model that I look up to professionally and personally.
What is the best advice you have ever received? The best business advice I’ve received is “Productivity isn’t about doing the most things. It’s about doing the most important things well.” There are so many demands for our time and it can be tempting to get caught up in a checklist mentality that ultimately leaves us stressed and falling short of our goals. By being intentional and choosing to devote myself to the activities that bring the greatest value, I am able to achieve greater success for my organization and greater meaning for myself.
The best life advice I’ve received is “Love God, love people.” Life can be complex and messy at times, but the wisdom embodied in this simple phrase has a profound impact. It keeps me centered on what is truly important in all seasons of life.
What do you want to be doing in 10 years? Serving others and helping them achieve their best success. Professionally, I want to be part of the executive team at Hendrick, working to make a difference in the lives of our employees, patients, and community.
What was your first summer job? I started mowing lawns when I was 13. I learned a lot from that experience, including responsibility, accountability, and a strong work ethic.
