Age: 31

Business: Hashi Teppan Grill

Job title: Owner

Why are you working in this industry? The food industry has been a part of my life since I was a little girl. I remember being at restaurants with my mother, father and grandparents for most of my younger years. I look forward to meeting new people and what better way than with food! The food industry has not only shaped me into the woman that I am, but it has also shaped the many employees that I have worked with.

What are three daily habits that have helped you to become successful?

  1. Quiet time whether in the morning, afternoon or at night. THIS IS A MUST.

  2. Coffee. Little boosts to help me get through my day.

  3. Start the day off on a positive note. Negative mornings can hinder the day and productivity can be low. As a business owner I also strive to be a positive role model to all my employees so starting the day positive can increase productivity to my employees.

What changes have you seen in Abilene during your career? What changes would you like to see? Abilene has changed so much since I’ve been here, and it keeps getting better. The food scene I would say change the most in the last decade, and there is a good variety of food like you would see in the larger cities. Many Abilenians are also longing to be exposed to new foods and the new ideas that are sculpting the food scenes. Downtown has changed over the last couple of years and luckily, we have many young professionals who are investing in growing our downtown. Downtown is a vital part of keeping young professionals, students and recent graduates in Abilene. It will also help us attract more tourists to visit Abilene on a regular basis.

What was your first summer job? I worked for my family at our first restaurant, Fuji Japanese grill, as a waitress and hostess.

Where will we find you enjoying your hard-earned time off? When I do get a chance I look forward to spending time with my family and eating at local new places here in Abilene.

Describe yourself in one word. Determined.
