Erin Seabourne

Age: 31

Business: Hendrick Home for Children

Job title: Executive Vice President, Licensed Professional Counselor

Why are you working in this industry? I like understanding and connecting with people. Most importantly, I believe that everyone deserves to have someone caring in their life that treats them with dignity.

What are three daily habits that have helped you to become successful? I take care of my family and myself first so I can take care of others well. I say yes to things that scare or intimidate me. I start and end each day with prayer and meditation.

Who is the person who most influenced you in business? It’s important to give credit where credit is due: my parents shaped me into the person I am today. They taught me to work hard and in the words of my dad to “never stop moving (growing and learning).” My husband, Grant, is my constant sounding board and encourager. He provides me with insight and helps me see my blind spots. In the business David Perkins is my mentor. He had my job before retiring; his wisdom has made me a better therapist and manager.

What is the best advice you have ever received? If you want to be powerful, empower those around you.

What was your first summer job? Teaching ballet at Ballet Abilene. I have lived and breathed ballet for most of my life.

Where will we find you enjoying your hard-earned time off? With my family and friends. I love being outside, seeing movies at The Paramount, and traveling.

If you were to give one piece of advice to someone starting out in your field what would it be? Meet and affirm people where they are, including and especially yourself. Don’t be afraid to allow the people you work with to teach and shape you as much as you hope to teach and shape them.
